The basics of this work you can genuinely do yourself.
An owner who knows their own customers can do more of this than our industry likes to admit, and most of the owners we meet are already doing it, on top of running everything else. What is usually missing is not skill. It is someone willing to write the steps down plainly instead of turning them into a proposal. So that is what these pages are: the basics, in full, at no cost. Work through them, and if you like the way we think about the work, that is a sensible point to talk to us about the rest of it.

How these guides are written.
Free guides from an agency invite a fair question about why we bother. Here is what goes into them and what we hope comes of them.
One guide is one job you can finish
Getting your business onto Google Maps. Putting a menu on a page that works on a phone. Setting up mail on your own domain. If a job is too big to finish in one sitting, it gets split into two guides rather than padded into one long article.
Complete, within a deliberate scope
A guide does not stop halfway through the job it sets out to do. What we choose is which jobs get published: the ones an owner can genuinely finish alone. Specialist work is not written up here, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend the line does not exist.
Written by the people who do it for a living
These are the steps our own specialists follow on paid projects, across search, advertising, web development and tracking. Nothing here is another blog post reworded, and nothing here is written by someone who has never had to make it work.
You will know where the line is
Doing it yourself pays off up to a point, and each guide says where that point sits for the job it covers. Past it, the work is something to put a proposal against rather than something to squeeze into a weekend.
The three we are most often asked to take on
Owners who have worked through the guides usually come back to us about one of these three. If that is where you have got to, tell us what is already in place and we will scope the rest.
Web development
A guide will get a site online. Working out what it has to say so that somebody actually calls takes a week alongside people who have done it before, and that is the part we are hired for.

The first moves are genuinely do-it-yourself: your listing, your reviews, the basics on your own pages. Sustained work on the terms your competitors also want is a different commitment, and one we take on as ongoing work.

Shopify and WooCommerce will let you launch in a weekend. Payments, delivery and being found are what decide whether the store sells anything, and building those properly is work we quote for.

Every guide here is written by the specialist who does that work on real projects, and reviewed by the person who has to fix it when it breaks. That is the reason we can be specific about the steps that go wrong, and the reason a guide will sometimes tell you the honest answer is to leave a thing alone.
